Jane Cull's deep understanding and clarification of Maturana's insights aside, what I find most impressive is her commitment to bringing these to bear in everyday living. And whenever anyone had anything to ask or offer, Jane was truly there to engage and learn together - rather than simply instruct or impress.

Books by Jane Cull

  • The Circularity of Life: An Essential Shift for Sustainability

Jane Cull's new e-book is now available for $35.00 AUD. Click here to purchase your copy now.

  • The 3rd Edition of Living Systems: An Introductory Guide

The ebook is available upon request for a cost of $10 AUD. The book can be viewed as a PDF document. This book was written to make Dr. Humberto Maturana's theories of living systems easier to understand. Chapters 4 and 5, "The Construction of Worlds" and "The Constitution of Cultures", are strictly the work of the author as an expansion of Maturana's Ontological Diagram of the Observer that is shown in Chapter 1.

Papers by Dr. Humberto Maturana

Thanks to Dr. Humberto Maturana of the Universidad De Chile (University of Chile), Santiago, for permission to access three of his papers. These papers were co-written with two other authors, Gerda Verden-Zoeller (The Biology of Love) and Sima Nisis de Rezepka (Human Awareness: Understanding the Biological Basis of Knowledge and Love in Education).

These are probably less technical than some of Maturana's other papers and they also provide a good introduction to the concepts of living systems and their relevance to daily life and education.

There is also a book that I would recommend for all levels of understanding, particularly if you are just starting out understanding Maturanas work. This book was written by Dr. Maturana and Bernhard Poerksen and is titled From Being to Doing. It is available from www.carl-auer.com.

A Paper on Circularity by Dr. Francisco J. Varela

Sadly, Dr Francisco Varela passed away in 2001 after a short illness. And it is with honor and gratitude that permission was received from him to put this paper on the LNS site just three weeks before he died. His work on circularity is both amazing and inspiring and will continue on through the work of many people.

Please enjoy.
